Pergola Pressure Cleaning in Wyoming – Central Coast

The Shine Bright team recently carried out some cleaning work at this lovely property in Wyoming on the Central Coast. We cleaned the gutters which had gutter guard covering them, followed by pressure cleaning the topside of a pergola roof, and soft washing the underside of the pergola.

Gutters that have gutter guard still need cleaning! Just nowhere near as often as gutters without gutter guard. The gutters here were definitely due for a clean. The last thing you want is gutters backing up and flowing back into your house (it happens!).

Cleaning the topside of pergola roofs is always an interesting challenge. Harnesses are necessary, doubly so with the two-storey drop off the side! Our roof cleaning work is carried out in pairs so that our second person can be there to support the main operator, both with getting equipment onto the roof, and assistance in an emergency, which at the time of writing has fortunately never happened at Shine Bright, although we are fully prepared for it.

Walking all over this particular style of pergola roof is also a problem as they aren’t made to support the load of a whole human dancing around up there. So how do we clean it without getting right out onto the pergola? We use our telescopic pressure cleaning wand with a rotating surface cleaning head that we pass back and forward. It’s a winner. Look at all that debris come off! Dirt, mould, leaves, and tree sap – all gone.

And the final part of the project, soft washing to the underside of this magnificent pergola, is carried out last of all because the gutter clean and pressure clean to the topside of the pergola throw out a bit of mess on everything else. This way, we clean up as we go, leaving everything crystal-clean afterwards. Why did we choose to soft-wash the underside of this pergola rather than pressure clean it? Soft washing has zero chance of causing damage to the underside of these beauties, and it really speeds the cleaning process up as well. We simply spray on our signature cleaning solution, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, and rinse off. The results are instant and amazing!

How often should I get my pergola cleaned?

We usually get the phone call from homeowners at around the ten year mark. And we absolutely can and do make pergolas sparkle after having been left alone for this long. In an ideal scenario though, to keep up with a good maintenance schedule, getting your pergola cleaned every 5-7 years on the topside would be a good schedule. And having the underside soft washed every 2-5 years, depending on how clean you like to keep your home, is the way to go. I’m writing this article whilst taking some time off for a sprained ankle (ouch!) and I’ve been staring at the algae growing on my own pergola. It’s been 3 years since it was cleaned, and it is absolutely due for some attention. Pergolas in the shade need to be cleaned more often than those in the full sun as well.
