Our team has been cleaning chimneys for 3 years. Our resident wood heater expert Paul has 30+ years of experience as a tradesman and is a registered member of the Australian Home Heating Association. His son Micah, the owner of Shine Bright, has learnt everything he knows from Paul. We are fully equipped to handle all aspects of chimney cleaning and fireplace inspections. We can also tackle most repairs.

What's included in our chimney cleaning and sweeping service?
- Preparation to ensure no mess is made.
- Taking our shoes off / wearing a separate pair of ‘inside’ shoes
- Setting up dropsheets around the heater to keep your floors clean
- Setting up a HEPA filter industrial vacuum to keep your living area dust free
- Vacuuming and full clear-out of the fire box
- Scraping and removing old, flaking, and rusting metal from inside of the fire box to expose the condition of the metal
- Inspection of the fireplace and chimney for metal warping and rust
- Inspection of the baffle plate, fire bricks, door ropes, door handle, and air vent
- The main event – sweeping of the chimney/flu itself
- For chimneys with single storey access, inspecting the condition of the exterior chimney/flu, roof flashing, and chimney rainhat. 2nd storey access can be arranged for an additional charge.
- Clean-up, reassembly of the fireplace, and pack-up
- We will provide you with a report of the condition of your fireplace. If any repairs are needed, we will discuss these with you. Majority of the time, we will arrange for Paul to return to make the repair.

How often should you get your chimney cleaned?
The Australian Home Heating Association recommends a yearly clean of your chimney to ensure a safe and efficient heater. This is the best way to go. Whilst it is common to see people wait a few years between cleans, it’s not a great idea. If it were my home, I personally would never leave it longer than 2 years between cleans. When dealing with a live fire in your home, it’s always best to err on the side of caution.
