What is included in our full service and clean?
- We set up protective drop sheets to keep your living room from getting messy. Soot stains everything so we want to work clean.
- Set up our equipment and clean out the firebox.
- Inspect the metal of the wood heater and ensure that it is not warped or rusted through. We do this by cleaning off the rusting and fading metal from the inside of the firebox to bring back to life the clean metal underneath, allowing us to see the true condition of the heater. We also inspect the flue to see that it’s in good condition.
- We detach the baffle plate – the piece of metal that prevents flames and heat from escaping up the flue straight away. Baffle plates are very handy because they let the smoke escape but direct the heat as best as possible towards the glass door and out towards the humans who need warmth.
- We sweep the chimney using a really cool brush on flexible poles that are attached to a drill.
- We vacuum and clean up the mess from the sweep.
- On 1 storey or split level roofs, we head onto the roof to inspect the outer flue, rainhat, and decktite flashing to ensure they are all in good condition. We can provide this as a service for 2nd storey roofs for an additional cost (as we need a 2nd person to help set up our big ladder).
- We clean the fireplace glass.
- Check over the door handle, damper, door seal, and firebricks.
- Check that everything meets the AS/NZS 2918 installation code for wood heaters.
- Provide recommendations for repairs and future maintenance.
What is included in our basic service?
We only recommend our basic service for wood heaters that are less than 5 years old and it has been a maximum of 2 year’s since the last sweep. We can also offer this as an option for wood heaters that are extremely well maintained. We provide this as an option because new heaters typically don’t have anything wrong with them. In general, at least for your first chimney clean and service with us, we recommend our full service. So what’s involved in our basic service?
- We set up our drop sheets and equipment.
- We detach the baffle plate and brush the soot and creosote from the chimney.
- We vacuum up the mess that this creates.
- And we are done! If we spot any damage whilst working we will of course mention this to you, but as we do not clean the firebox anywhere near as thoroughly in just a sweep, we most likely won’t detect damage.

2nd Storey Full Service $385
Same as 1st storey service but does not include roof access. Roof access can be arranged for an additional cost.
“Just the Essentials” $275-$330
Chimney sweep ONLY – does NOT include the following: roof access, inspection of condition of heater (except a very basic visual once-over), and includes basic clean only of the firebox itself. Not recommended unless your heater is in great condition and has been serviced regularly.
How often should you get your chimney cleaned?
The Australian Home Heating Association recommends that you clean your chimney yearly, and sometimes even twice a year, to ensure a safe and efficient heater. Yearly is a pretty great option, one that we recommend, and we can provide discounts for customers who get a regular clean. I would never recommend going longer than two years between cleans under any situation if my fireplace were being used regularly. The quality of your wood can affect how often you need your fireplace cleaned too. That being said, when you have a roaring fire in your home, why take risks?
