What happens if it rains on the day of my booking?

Shine Bright offers several services on the Central Coast including gutter cleaning, window cleaning, pressure cleaning, and chimney cleaning. What happens if rain is expected? What are some of the thoughts that go into making the decision to postpone or not postpone a booking? This page will discuss some of the thoughts that go into the decision.

It’s a question we get asked all the time. What happens if it rains on the day of my booking? And to that, my first instinctive reaction is, well, what happens if it doesn’t rain? Often our customers call us up and move their booking, looking out at the rain radar. But we find so often that the weatherman says that it’s going to bucket down rain but you wake up on the day and the weather is beautiful.

And the opposite can happen too. Sometimes we um and ah about whether we should or shouldn’t work and then it turns out that the weather is miserable when maybe you thought it was going to be good. So typically, we don’t make the decision to postpone your booking until the morning of the booking.

Now, if you do get a message from us at about 7-7:30am on the day of you booking saying “I’m so sorry, we have to postpone your booking”, usually it’s been an hour or so that I’ve been discussing with the team, we’ve been staring at the weather radar, trying to figure out whether we should or shouldn’t go.

There are four different weather websites/apps that I use to make that decision, so it’s not something that we take lightly. We really do put a lot of thought into whether we should or shouldn’t postpone a booking. But of course, we still do get it wrong sometimes, and we really, really appreciate your flexibility in this matter. To be honest, if there was one thing I could wave a magic wand and change about my business and about our industry, it would be the ability to perfectly predict the weather. It probably causes us the most stress out of any aspect of our business, that instability.

But it is something that every single trade worker has to consider when working outside. Whether you’re doing road work, you’re a carpenter or a roofer, a concreter, or a brick layer, so many jobs are affected by the weather and this is just something that we have to contend with. I would love to be able to put a giant bubble around everyone’s houses and keep on working but especially when it comes to gutter cleaning, roof cleaning, sometimes window cleaning, the weather does affect us a lot.

Now often with window cleaning we can still continue working in the wet. If it’s really storming badly we will absolutely cancel for our safety, but with a little bit of rain it doesn’t usually affect the work. We actually use purified water, it’s basically distilled water, to clean the outside of your windows, so rain is just throwing on more clean water on the windows – it doesn’t ruin anything. Sometimes the drip marks can make a mess on clean windows, and if that is ever the case we do have a 10 day rain guarantee so we’ll fix that up for you free of charge if something ever happens.

We’re very familiar with the kinds of conditions we can and can’t keep on window cleaning in so we’ll do our best to make sure we don’t have to move your booking but sometimes it is inevitable and we really thank you for your flexibility in this matter.

We’ll absolutely stay in touch about the rain and if you don’t hear from us that usually means we’re hoping that it’ll all be fine. If things aren’t looking good, we’ll usually be in contact the night, afternoon, or day beforehand. We typically don’t like to make the decision until the morning of your booking, unless of course things are really, really looking bad and we absolutely have to cancel. Sometimes it’s just been storming all week, but that’s maybe once or twice a year that we get weeks like that. Sometimes, it can storm for a few days, it can be raining for a few days, when finally we have one beautiful day before we get a couple more bad days. We’ll of course try and work that one good day.

But it is a delicate matter. So we thank you so much for your flexibility in this and I really, really appreciate you choosing Shine Bright Property Maintenance for your cleaning needs.

The business is my baby. I didn’t buy it from anyone. I started it completely from scratch. I dropped leaflets in letterboxes and made my own initial website.

I’ve got more help now, but it’s something that I started from nothing and every single tiny little thing has had thought that’s gone into it. So I just wanted to say thank you.

If we do have to make a decision to move a booking due to the weather, let us know if you have a specific date that something needs to be done by. Let us know and we’ll do everything we can to fit in with you. If you’ve got a booking that’s really hard to change, let us know, we’re here to help.

We really do want to make you happy and make your cleaning go as smoothly as possible. Thanks so much again and we thank you your flexibility if need be. We really appreciate it and we hope the weather stays dry. All the best and we’ll see you very soon!
